In collaboration with, NCPS, the District STEM Coordinator, Marcy Keener, guided Mrs. Mangano's 8th-grade Math 1 students at Edwards Middle School in using their understanding of parallel and perpendicular lines to create a mini putt-putt golf course. Engaged in an interactive lesson, they tackled problems and used mathematical computation to apply all their knowledge of linear slope components and their visual representation of equations on a graph. They also explored block coding with the Spheros Mini robots to “drive” their ball from the starting line to the ending hole. Students were able to first-hand see where higher-level mathematical concepts are used in the everyday world and explored possible careers for their future.
