🎓 ECHS Scholars in the Class of 2024 visited Orlando, Florida to participate in Universal Studios' Grad Bash '24 event. This is an exclusive event for graduating seniors from across the nation. 43 scholars and 9 chaperones attended the event, which included park-to-park passes over two days. 🌍🍓 Happy Earth Day from Nash County Public Schools 🌿🎉 Superintendent Dr. Steve Ellis visited Southern Nash High School today to observe students in Lisandra Mejia's Sustainable Agriculture Production II class. Students demonstrated their skills during his visit by picking strawberries and converting them into homemade jam. Under the guidance of Ms. Mejia, students have embraced the full cycle of food production—from planting to harvesting to making homemade strawberry jam. Thanks to the North Carolina Go Outside Grant, NCPS students learn about agriculture and put their knowledge into practice by maintaining a year-round strawberry patch. These activities teach them about the food production through practice and application of principles and knowledge of 21st century agriculture through further exploration of renewable energy, precision agriculture, biotechnology, and breeding programs...Which impacts sustainable farming and helps prepare them for future roles in eco-friendly agricultural practices. This Earth Day, we're proud to showcase the hard work of our students. SNHS has one of the largest Ag Education programs in North Carolina. The Middle School STEM Challenge was held on Friday, April 12th. Twenty-six teams from all over Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson counties participated. Students had several challenges including a blind STEM challenge, building with K'Nex, coding the LEGO Spike robot, and a book challenge. This event was sponsored by STEP, in collaboration with many local businesses and local rotary clubs. Ultimately, Edwards Middle School (Team 1) took home the gold, followed by NEC Prep (Team 1), and South Edgecombe (Team 1). Great job everyone! 👏🌟

Emmanuel Perkins, Kennedy Farmer, Ke'Sondra Pickett, Ahnaya Bellamy, and Dalaney Cooper-Pittman of Rocky Mount High School were honored for their excellence in Student Government. They were recognized as a Louise Hunter State High School Honor Council at the NC Association of Students Councils Convention! 🏆
Ke'Sondra Pickett was also recognized as the 2023-2024 NC Association of Student Councils Eastern District Chair Student Representative. She was inducted into the NCASC Hall of Fame at the recent convention! 🌟
Jon Ayden Horne, a senior at Nash Central High School, was recently awarded the Morehead-Cain Scholarship! This scholarship is a four-year fully funded educational experience for exceptional student leaders at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 📚
Three NCPS students accepted their invitation to attend the North Carolina Governor’s School program this summer: Frederick Lindsey, Chandler Logan, and Ann Marie Cauble. One alternate student was selected, Demitri Braxton. This esteemed program offers a four-week summer residential experience for gifted and talented high school students, focusing on academic disciplines and the arts. 🥇
The NCPS Communication, Planning, and Engagement Department recently attended the North Carolina School Public Relations Association's Blue Ribbon Award ceremony in High Point.
