During this time students had the opportunity to show their parents and Superintendent Dr. Steve Ellis all of the amazing things going on at SNMS. NCPS school psychologists are uniquely qualified school team members who strive to support both students and staff. Our psychologists each serve multiple schools, as well as are valued participants on many district-level teams. They wear many hats and have a broad range of expertise, including data collection and analysis, assessment practices, program evaluation, academic and behavioral intervention strategies, mental health supports, consultation and collaboration efforts, crisis intervention and recovery, social-emotional learning, and school-family-community connectedness. NCPS school psychologists work tirelessly every day to improve the academic achievement, positive behavior, social-emotional skills, and mental health of our students! The National Association of School Psychologists’ theme for this week is “Let’s Grow Together,” inspired by the importance of both personal and shared growth in supporting the well-being and learning of students. Meet Northern Nash High School CTE Student, Raven Whitaker I have chosen to pursue Marketing Management as my academic path. I made this choice because I have a strong interest in understanding the dynamics of both sports and non-sport events. Additionally, I wanted to learn the essential criteria for running a successful business. Meet Southern Nash High School CTE student Hadley Pridgen I am enrolled in the Agricultural Education pathway of Animal Science II-Food Animal Honors for my Fall 2023-2024 school year. I am continuing my education in Animal Science from Animal Science I (Fall 2022-2023). I chose Agricultural Education as the Southern Nash community is united in its roots, as well as being encouraged by my father, Jason Pridgen, as he is a farmer in our community. I joined in my freshman year and was enticed by the active lifestyle this pathway asks for its participants, as one must be dedicated and determined to succeed in not just class but in agriculture. The additional benefit of automatically being a member of the FFA was also key. I loved competing in Extemporaneous Public Speaking and being a chapter officer to help the community that gave so much to me. This program has impacted me personally as it has shown me the hardships that some people endure to prosper in life, whether growing plants or handling livestock. This Agricultural Pathway has improved my patience and overall maturity, as I have realized that things will never be given to you and that you must work to achieve your goals. The social and personal connections this program gave to me will never be forgotten. I have formed bonds with other students that I would have never forged if not for my Ag classes. This program will further assist me in life by improving my leadership skills and education in the most diverse field that is agriculture. As we kick off CTE Career Development Month this November, we’re spotlighting our CTE staff. Check out what Mrs. Sharron Barnes, CTE Computer Engineering Technology Teacher had to say! The highlight of my career as a teacher was when I had the opportunity to see struggling students make significant breakthroughs in learning. I worked closely with these students, provided extra support, and witnessed their confidence and academic performance improve dramatically in the class. Computer Engineering Technology allows students to explore the IT field from a hardware/software perspective. Students in this program have been provided an opportunity to work at the student Tech Helpdesk, which is a paid internship/stipend throughout the year, including the summer. This program allows students to learn about customer service skills and IT repairs. This course at NNHS serves as a segment to many pathways students can explore and possibly continue their education—for example, networking, cybersecurity, programming, etc. I was motivated to become a teacher by my passion for helping others learn and grow. I have always liked sharing knowledge and supporting kids. This passion has greatly influenced my teaching approach. I love to create engaging and inclusive learning environments and tailor lessons to real-life scenarios to which students can relate. Over the last 4 years, there have been many, but I am most proud of seeing an increase in certification rates for the class. I am also proud that NNHS has been highlighted by the North Carolina Business Committee for Education (NCBCE) as one of the premier Student Tech Helpdesk. This accolade is now affording other opportunities within the IT field in the upcoming year. More to come! Advice for students: There are many pathways that you can take. Start early by exploring your options in middle school. When you get to high school, you'll know what you like and thrive in your classes.
