A group of 10 Media Coordinators and a member of the NCPS (Nash County Public Schools) Digital Teaching and Learning team attended the annual NCSLMA (NC State Library Media Association) conference. This group attended sessions over the past two days to grow in their roles as leaders within their schools. They were also able to exchange ideas with media coordinators and district leaders across the state, see and hear new ideas, meet their favorite authors, and have the opportunity to bring back many amazing ideas and strategies to their school that will impact learning and engage students.

According to the National Organization for Women, the average woman reportedly spends $20 per menstrual cycle, revealing the economic challenge associated with these essential items. This issue is termed menstrual poverty, signifying inadequate access to menstrual products and education. Many need to be made aware of this concept. North Carolina law designates menstrual products as nonessential goods, subjecting them to a 4.75% tax. A change.org petition indicates that 13% of high school respondents miss school work due to the financial barrier to menstrual hygiene products. Additionally, 20% of women and girls aged 12 to 44 living below the federal poverty line are adversely affected by an increased tax on essential hygiene products.
Please check out this graphic for more information on how to be involved.
