✨ Last week, at the September Board of Education meeting, Nash County Public Schools celebrated several outstanding individuals! 🌟
🏆 Dr. Hugh Scott, Principal of Southern Nash High School, was recognized as the Best Principal by Rocky Mount Telegram 2024 Reader’s Choice Gold.
🏅 Allison Williams, Principal of Red Oak Elementary, earned Silver for Best Principal.
🏅 Emily Engelking, a teacher at Northern Nash High, was honored with Silver for Best Teacher.
🎖️ We also recognized several #NCPSHeroes for their tireless dedication to our students and staff:
🌟 Barbara Harvey, Administrative Assistant of Student Support Services, managed over 800 student transfer requests between May and September, all while maintaining her other duties at an exceptional level.
🌟 Dr. Michelle Royster, NCPS Parent Coordinator, organized the district’s first-ever Back to School Fair, which was a huge success!
🌟 Janet Morris, Director of Federal Programs, displayed outstanding leadership in managing multiple federal grants and was instrumental in the success of the Back to School Fair.
🌟 Elizabeth Jenkins, Families in Transition Liaison, supported McKinney-Vento students and collaborated with the Boys & Girls Club during the summer.
🌟 Adriana Havier, Federal Programs Administrative Assistant, demonstrated her incredible organizational skills while handling essential documentation and leading efforts to enhance opportunities in Indian Education.
🌟 Dr. Sylvia Anthony-McGeachy, Director of Beginning Teachers, has gone above and beyond to support new teachers, providing everything from classroom strategies to personal support like trips to the DMV.
🔧 Our Maintenance Team was also honored for their amazing work improving facilities across the district during a busy summer. The legacy of Shannon Davis, former Executive Director of Maintenance, was remembered fondly, as Superintendent Dr. Steve Ellis shared: "As I walked around the schools this week, I saw Shannon Davis in every single one of them. Even though he is gone, his legacy for Nash County Public Schools will carry on

Nash County Public Schools (NCPS), in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region, has been awarded a Cohort 17 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant totaling $1,476,543 over three years. NCPS was one of only eight recipients in the region, chosen from a pool of 33 applicants.

This is an opportunity for any North Carolina rising high school freshman through rising seniors to apply for the Youth Health Advisor (YHA) Team with the Division of Child and Family Well-Being.
The purpose of the YHA team is to engage and empower adolescents to become active leaders in promoting health and wellness in their communities. Through education, awareness, and action, the team works to increase understanding of adolescent health issues, reduce health disparities, and encourage young people to make healthy choices. The team hopes to help create a healthier future for all youth by supporting growth and development, fostering collaboration and teamwork, and empowering young people to make a positive impact in the world.
The YHA team is an inclusive group of young people and welcomes applications from youth who identify as having special healthcare needs.
