letter for ncps families

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to inform you about a new safety procedure being implemented in our elementary schools, beginning Monday, September 9, 2024.  In response to our safety survey and in an effort to keep our schools free of weapons, students will be picked, at random, to walk through a metal detector or have an administrator randomly wand students. This begins on Monday, September 9, 2024 and will take place at least once a week.

Any and all students may be chosen to participate including bus riders, car poolers, walkers and students that drive. We want to assure you that the selection of those under-going wanding or being asked to walk through a metal detector is a completely random process. Nash County Public Schools will be documenting the results and closely monitoring this new procedure to make adjustments in the months to come at the elementary school level. For additional questions, please follow-up with your school administrator.

Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to ensure the safety of our students.

Sincerely,

Nash County Public Schools
