Nash County Public Schools Highlights Advanced Placement Achievements at Capitol Day Event

Raleigh, N.C. – Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) was recognized as one of six districts invited by the College Board to participate in Advanced Placement (AP) Day at the North Carolina General Assembly. This North Carolina Advanced Placement Partnership (NCAPP) invitation underscores NCPS's leadership in promoting Advanced Placement education. NCPS delegates Robin Griffin, Director of Accountability at NCPS, Wendy Hinson, AIG/Fine Arts Coordinator at NCPS, and Jeff White, Executive Director of Secondary Schools at NCPS, represented the district at this significant event held in Raleigh, where they engaged with lawmakers and discussed the district's impactful AP strategies.

Their discussions with state legislators, including Representative Allen Chesser of District 25 and Senator Lisa Barnes of District 11, highlighted the district's substantial advancements in AP education and the crucial role of the state's robust support of AP initiatives. Additionally, NCPS held a virtual meeting with Representative Ken Fontenot of District 25.

The Capitol Day event offered NCPS a platform to showcase its dedication to increasing educational opportunities through the enhancement of AP courses. This effort has led to a significant rise in AP participation within the district, empowering students to pursue rigorous academic challenges and achieve excellence in their studies.

During their visit, Griffin, Hinson, and White also conveyed their gratitude for the legislative support that has been instrumental in facilitating access to AP resources, including testing funds, bonuses for AP teachers, and comprehensive backing from the NCAPP. Nash County Public Schools is committed to continued collaboration with state officials and stakeholders to further develop its AP offerings, ensuring students are well-prepared for academic and professional success in the future.
