Construction Begins for the Northern Nash High Field House
Rocky Mount, N.C. — Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) broke ground on Tuesday, September 12, for the Northern Nash High School (NNHS) field house. Construction officially begins on Wednesday, September 13, with an expected completion date targeted for the culmination of the 2024 football season.
The NNHS field house project is designed to cater to the needs of all outdoor athletes at the school, underscoring NCPS's commitment to providing exceptional student-athlete opportunities.
NNHS is the sole high school within the NCPS system needing a modernized field house. The project aims to create a versatile space accommodating various sports activities, contrasting with the previous 2012 renovation that exclusively focused on football without expanding the square footage.
During the June meeting of the Nash Board of Education, Franklin Lamm presented a motion seconded by Vice-Chair Lank Dunton to approve the bid and execute the contract for the Northern Nash field house. The motion passed with a 6-3 majority vote. The $4.7 million construction contract was awarded to Berry Building Group for a new field house at Northern Nash High School.
The Funding for the project comes from a commitment of $3 million from Nash County, $1.2 million from property sales, and a grant. The school district's capital fund will cover the remaining balance of roughly $500,000.
