NCPS Pre-K Placement Process
NCPS Pre-K Placement Process
Application Process:
Submit a completed Early Childhood Care and Education application. To qualify,
children must be 4 years old on or before August 31st of the current year. Once
the application has been submitted, parents will receive a developmental screening appointment for their child.Letters are mailed to families requesting missing folder information. Missing information can be dropped off at the NCPS Preschool Department at the Teacher Resource Center or at any elementary school.
Completed applications are copied and submitted to Down East
Partnership for Children (DEPC) for approval. Only folders with all required
information will be submitted for approval.Once a list of approved children is received from DEPC, NCPS will consider
children for placement in our NCPK classes. The PreK Department completes the
selection process and students are assigned to NCPK sites.
Notification of Placement and Enrollment Process:
Parents/guardians are contacted via phone, email and/or mail to inform them of their child’s
approval and placement. Parents are informed at this time that in order for this
placement process to be completed, they must to complete the district’s enrollment process. If the parent/guardian does not accept the assigned NCPS placement for their
child OR does not respond to the notification within 10 business days, other
referrals including community agencies, childcare centers, playgroups and a
waiting list for other sites may be offered.
***Final selection and placement decisions are based on serving the most-at risk, underserved children. This selection process reflects the rank order of the student database indicating the highest multiple criteria score. Students with the highest composite scores are offered placement first.
