Work-Based Learning State Motto: “Helping our community prepare the workforce of tomorrow!”

The Nash County Public Schools Work-based Learning program allows students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real-world setting.  It provides foundational support for students to develop soft skills, learn how to work as part of a team, and work ethics that will help them to navigate a successful career.  Internships can be paid or non-paid. Students receive an excellent education, businesses get well-trained employees, schools serve motivated students, and communities realize multiple benefits from every dollar invested.

Formal application to the program can be made as early as the junior year in high school. Students may also enter the program as seniors. All students will be enrolled in classroom instruction as well as on-the-job training.

Student Expectations:
Once selected, the Work-based Learning students will be expected to:

• Agree to a one-time sign-up process with an employer, NC-DOL, and NCPS.

• Complete the classroom training program

• Complete a minimum of 400 hours of on-the-job training per year

• Maintain an overall "2.0" average in all coursework

• Maintain an interest in their career goals

Becoming a partner is a win-win for both the student and the organization!

• Businesses get a screened, competent, part-time worker.

• The industry in our area has an opportunity to build the workforce.

• Businesses employ and train the student in their area of interest/pathway.

• Mentoring opportunities...show students what is expected in the real world.

• Partnering help build students' character

• Students tend to be successful. They don't drop out of school.

• Both the student and employer are required to commit to the program for a year.

• Students receive credit upon successfully completing the partnership (one credit per semester or two credits per year)
