Good Evening Cardinal Parents, We hope everyone has enjoyed their time away from school and that all our students are refreshed and ready to get back to work at school tomorrow. We have a little over three weeks before our next big holiday break. December 21st is the last day of the second grading period so it is important that our students are working diligently to get their grades to a level that accurately represent what they know and can do. If you are unsure of how your child is currently performing then please be sure to look at their progress report which was sent home on Thursday November 16th, check the parent portal or contact your child's teacher. Please help us welcome Deputy Hernandez from the Nash County Sherriff's Department. She is our assigned School Resource Officer and we are glad she is with us to help support our school. Please follow our morning car line routine and drop off early enough for your child to get breakfast and still get to class by 8:00AM. We are working to reduce our number of tardies and improve our attendance rates as much as possible. Thank you for all who are able to get their children here between 7:20-7:55 which ensures they get to class on time. We will have our next PTA meeting and our K-2 Christmas concert on Thursday December 7th at 6:15 in our gym. We hope you will join us for this wonderful event. We look forward to seeing our students tomorrow and for a great week ahead. Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, We have two days of school this week and then will be off for Thanksgiving Break. We will return to school on Monday November 27th. Please remember that school starts at 8:00AM so we need our students to arrive at school early enough to get to class and be ready by 8:00. If your child is going to eat school breakfast it is important to get them here early enough to get their breakfast and then get to class. Progress reports went home last week for the second nine weeks so please be sure to monitor your child's progress. Our 3rd-5th graders did a great job last week taking the NC Checkins assessments in reading math and science. Our teachers will be able to use that information to help us reteach any areas that were specifically difficult for our students. As the weather has changed we have accumulated many jackets and hoodies. Please put your child's name on the tag of these items so we can return any that are found on campus. We look forward to two great days at school this week and wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving break with family and friends. Good night

Internet Update: At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, a fiber line was cut between Raleigh and Rocky Mount, leading to an interruption in internet and phone services for all NCPS . As of 1:23 p.m., we are pleased to report that all internet and phone lines have been successfully restored. We are grateful for your patience and understanding during this disruption. Thank you! Good Evening Cardinal Parents, This week we begin our benchmark testing with the new NC Check Ins assessments. These assessments are very important to help us identify students strengths and areas we need to look to reteach or reinforce in the classroom. The tests are aligned to the state EOG tests and will be of great value for students and staff as we evaluate our progress so far this year. It is important that your child is at school on time so we can begin testing promptly in the morning. 5th grade science is Monday, 3-5 reading and math are Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather looks to be a bit cooler this week so please remind your child to keep track of their hoodies, jackets, hats and gloves. It is helpful to have their name on the tag so we can return misplaced items. Next week we will have school Monday and Tuesday the 20th and 21st and will then be off for Thanksgiving break. We look forward to a great week. Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, This week we have an early release day on Thursday the 9th and Friday is the Veterans Day Holiday so there will be no school. We have our first ever Veterans Day parade and breakfast to honor our Cardinal Family veterans on Tuesday so we are excited for this inaugural event. Wednesday is our first Awards Day for the year. If your child is receiving an award you will have received an invitation last week. Our program runs on our student specials class schedule so 5th grade will be from 8:10-8:55., 4th grade 9:00-9:45, 1st grade 10:00-10:45, Kindergarten 12:05-12:50, 2nd grade 12:55-1:40 and 3rd grade will be 1:45-2:30. We are excited to announce that Ms Thigpen's K class is the first winner of our Tardy Party. This treat goes to a homeroom class with a low number of tardies. Let's see who is going to win for the month of November. We look forward to a great week at school and thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and community. Good night.

Good Evening Cardinal Parents, Report cards will be sent electronically tomorrow afternoon to your child's email account. Please be sure to log in with them to see how your child is progressing this first nine weeks. We will send academic trouble letters home this week as well to let any parents know if their child is not on track for meeting the NCPS promotion standards. Next week we will have our first ever NES veterans day parade and breakfast at school. We invite any of our parents or grandparents who are veterans and would like to be in our parade. Please let your child's teacher know if you or one of your family members will participate so we can have the breakfast prepared. Thursday November 9th is an early release day and Friday November 10th is the Veterans Day holiday so there is no school. Our running club did an outstanding job at the race in Nashville this weekend and we look forward to them running again in December in Rocky Mount. Remember to put names on hoodies and sweatshirts so we don't accumulate too many in lost and found. Thank you for all your support. Good Night.
