The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school.

NC Law Senate Bill 49 / SL 2023-106 states that from 01/01/24, to include a child in photos/videos/recordings, parents/guardians must Opt-In. This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Find the form in Rooms, under Materials -> "Mandatory" -> "updated model release form".

Good afternoon!
I would like to thank the PTO for hosting the Santa Shop this past week. The students enjoyed being able to attend and purchase items for their family. The PTO also provided food from La Rancherita for the staff Wednesday and Harris Teeter in Wilson provided desserts. The staff and students at Middlesex appreciate the support from our PTO! Thank you PTO for all you do!
As we approach the winter break, we have busy days ahead!
Students are working on completing their Exact Path diagnostic for Math and Reading. This information is used to help teachers make the best educational decisions for your child.
We are still celebrating the 12 days of Christmas by dressing in different themed attire. It's been great seeing so many staff and students enjoying these themed days. The attire for the day will be in the parent newsletter. We would love for the students to continue to participate.
December 20th and 21st are early release days. We will start our dismissal at 1:00 on these days.
December 20th we will have our PBIS celebration. Students are encouraged to wear PJs to schools. We will watch a movie and have popcorn as the reward for not receiving a discipline referral for the 2nd 9 weeks of school. This will also be the day teachers have celebrations for the class. This event will be for students only.
December 21st we will have our winter concert. The concert will start at 9:30. The students do such a great job and would love for parents to attend. If you plan on attending please make sure you are in the gym by 9:20. After the concert, if you choose to check your child out, please make sure you sign your child out from the teacher.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
