Academic Enrichment and Intervention

Edwards Middle School strives to engage every child in their academic journey.  Our goal is to provide a rigorous education that will encourage students to be life-long learners.

What is Academic Enrichment and Intervention?

  • Academic Enrichment provides a supplemental learning opportunity that enhances academic subjects and engages students in higher learning.  At Edwards Middle School, we incorporate project based learning into each content area where students learn through actively engaging in real-world and meaningful projects. Teachers may also use a variety of resources that are provided by NCPS:  Edmentum, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt ELA Resources, Envision Math Resources, and Gibbs Smith Resources for Social Studies.  EMS also provides opportunities for students to explore interests extending the curriculum,

such as Odyssey of the Mind, STEM Design, Quiz Bowl, Invention Convention, and Battle of the Books.

  • Academic Intervention is a scheduled time used to teach a new skill, enhance a new skill or encourage a child to apply an existing skill to a newly learned concept.  Edwards Middle School teachers may use, but are not limited to, the following resources to implement these intervention strategies: Schoolnet, all resources mentioned above, adult and/or peer tutors.
