PowerSchool Parent Portal Q & A
When will Student Access IDs be created for parent logins?
Student Access IDs will be created on or shortly after enrollment. This timeframe is subject to change.
Who will distribute login information to parents?
Designated school office support staff will distribute login information to students who are enrolled on the day of mass creation of Access IDs and passwords. Data managers will distribute this information to new/transfer students.
What forums can a school use to mass distribute logins?
Schools may use any school event, i.e. Open House, iConnect meetings, PTO, Report Card pick-up, Academic Nights, Curriculum Fairs, etc.
Can parent login information be distributed at one school location if they have students enrolled in different schools in the district?
No. To ensure that custodial situations are properly addressed, parents must obtain login information from each school in which their children are enrolled.
**This is a change from previously communicated information**
Who is ultimately responsible for student attendance?
The classroom teacher. State law mandates (via the School Attendance and Student Accounting Manual) that it is the duty of the teacher:
• To ascertain the cause of non-attendance and thus determine when an absence is lawful (G.S. 115C-379)…
• To record absences and absence reason codes accurately to ensure implementation of the Ten Day Rule…
• To maintain accurate student accounting records; (Attendance records shall be kept for each day of the school year)
Penalty for Law Violation: Any parent, guardian, or other person violating the provisions of the Compulsory Attendance Law is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.
(G.S. 115C-380)
When should attendance be taken?
Attendance should be taken daily for each class period for middle and high schools and during homeroom for elementary schools. Attendance should always be taken within the first 10 minutes of the attendance reporting period. This is a district standard!
How can a teacher help to promote use of the PowerSchool Parent Portal?
Teachers should use every face-to-face opportunity with parents/guardians, as well as e-mail communications, progress reports, etc.
When can I access the Portal?
The Parent Portal will be available 24 hours/7 days a week, with the exception of state planned system maintenance weekends. Dates available on the NCDPI website.
Can someone else gain access or change my information?
No. Each parent will create a unique username and password. Please protect your information by not sharing this with others. Consequences are outlined in the PowerSchool Acceptable Use Guidelines.
What should I do if I forget or lose my login information (Access IDs)?
You must go to the school that issued the login information and speak to the designee.
Should I log off when I am finished?
Yes. Not logging off compromises your student’s data.
What do I do if information in the Portal is incorrect?
Contact your child’s school to discuss information you believe is inaccurate.
Will the Parent Portal replace the need for parent/teacher conferences?
No. It is still important to meet with your child’s teachers.
Does it cost anything to use this system?
There is no cost associated with use, however you will need a computer with Internet access. Computers are available at public library branches. WiFi access is available at other locations within your community (e.g. McDonalds, Bojangles, Chick-fil-a, etc.)

For help in setting up your Parent Portal Account, call Michelle Royster at (252) 462-2527 or reach out to the school.

Teachers in grades 3-12 will post grades for assignments within 5 business days after the assignment due date. Exceptions include K-2 assignments, large research projects, etc., but with the school administrator’s approval.
